Costs and returns

How the money works.

Two questions decide it: what you put in to open, and what the shop keeps each month. Here is both — the second one on your own rent, staff and footfall.

You buy at one price. You sell at another.

Everything in the catalogue is priced so it sells for 1.4 times what you pay. That holds across the range, not on a hand-picked few.

  1. You pay

    ₹100

Our price to you, landed and tagged.

  2. It sells for

    ₹140

The shelf price, printed before it reaches you.

  3. You keep

    ₹40

On every hundred rupees of stock you sell.

Rent, staff and electricity come out of that ₹40 — not out of the ₹140. Which is why the calculator below asks you for those three and nothing else.

Four payments, in the order you make them.

Opening starts from around ₹8 lakh. We will not print one total — until we know your floor area and your mix, any figure is invented, and it becomes the number you hold us to.

  1. 01TokenOn signingBooks your city and starts the work. Adjusted into your fit-out, and refundable until you approve the drawings.
  2. 02Fit-outAfter drawingsShelving, island units, counter and signboard — delivered and installed. Civil work, electrical and lighting are yours.
  3. 03Opening stockBefore you openThe first fill. Every shelf, priced and tagged before it reaches you. This is the biggest line.
  4. 04Working capitalFrom openingWhat you hold back to restock before the shop is paying for itself. Budget one full cycle.

Three things that are never on the bill.

These are in the agreement, not just on this page. Ask for it on the first call.

No franchise fee

You are not licensing a name, so there is nothing to buy the right to use.

No royalty

Not monthly, not on turnover, not ever. The shop's takings are yours.

No fee to leave

It is your shop. If you stop buying from us it stays open under your name.

Now do it on your numbers.

Put in how busy you think the shop will be and what it costs you to run. We supply the margin; you supply the part only you can know. Nothing is sent to us and nothing asks for your email.

Your shop

Your guesses, not ours. Change anything.

What it costs you to run

Every month, whether anybody walks in.

Break-even

28 a day

Customers a day at ₹350 to cover ₹77,000 of fixed costs. Below that the shop loses money.

The one shop trading on this today

32 a day

At a ₹347 average, across the 37 days it has rung sales. One shop is not a sample — it is the only real number we have, and we would rather show it than an invented one.

How long to get it back

We do not print what a shop costs to open, because it depends on your floor area and what goes on the shelves. Put in whatever figure you have been quoted — by us or by anyone — and this divides it by the line above.

Enter a figure above.

What this cannot tell you. Whether 30 people a day will walk past your shutter. That is your road, your rent and your town, and it is the number the whole thing turns on — which is why we ask about your city on the call before anything else.

Three things to hold against that number.

  • Take 10% off for real lifeShrinkage, damages, the discount you give a regular, the lines you clear at cost. Every shop has them.
  • There is no year two hereA column marked “Year 2” with a growth rate in it is a guess somebody made in a spreadsheet.
  • The footfall is yours to setIt is the whole business, and we cannot know it. That is why you type it in and we do not.

We will not tell you what you will earn. Anybody who does is guessing at your footfall, and your footfall is the whole business.
